Oh look! Flying feet!

So I finished something! I do that with most of my projects, but since I have so many WIPs right now it's been a while since I finished something. I tend to forget how good it feels.
I mean, I made these socks. With my hands. Out of string. That is kind of impressive, I think. Even if it's just a small item.

The nice thing about finishing things is that it always shows me, that I can in fact finish things. Which is something I actually tend to forget and that makes difficult tasks often unnecessarily hard to start and complete.
By the way, I enjoyed knitting with this yarn! It is kind of splitty but I always noticed it in time and was able to fix it. The conitually changing colors make knitting very addictive. The only thing I don't really like is that there is a clear line where I finished the heel and continued knitting in the round. But to avoid that I might have to learn how to knit an afterthought heel and I just didn't feel link it yet.

Oh, apropos learning. I learned something!!! Let me show you a picture, everything is more exciting in pictures, right?

I think I used the easiest method, but it still is colorwork, right?! Anyway this is just a test, I just wanted to see wether I was able to do it. I'm not sure what to do with the resulting tube. It fits my wrist, but it is a bit loose. The colors were chosed at random, and the combination is a bit out of my comfort-zone. Still, I'm thinking a headband could be fun. Right?
The yarns I used are Pickles Merino Tweed and Rauma Finullgarn. Both are leftovers from Norby hats, though I have to keep some of the Rauma, because Norby no. 2 doen't have tassels yet.

Work In Progress

Like (almost) every knitter I have unfinished half-knitted things lying around. The luckier things will actually get finished at some point, other things just vanish into boxes and wait for attention.

Right now (here in Oslo) I only have a few things with me that need attention. Everything else is stacked into big kartons in my parents flat and I hope, hope, hope there won't be a bad surprise when I get back. Bug-wise, you know?
But here there are three unfinished (first) socks waiting for completion and a partner, two shawls, of which I will probably only manage to finish one, there is a hat that needs tassels and there is the serious urge to by more yarn. Because I can't buy that at home, and no there isn't a lot of that already. Äh.

Another thing that needs serious work is this blog obviously. I really want to make this prettier than it is right now, and for that it will need at least a nice banner and I don't know yet wether I want a background or not.

Of course there is also school-work I need to do, like homework and I have to prepare this project for the kids in my kindergarden.

I really don't like to do lists, but the funny thing is, that I belong to the people who actually manage to follow them. And I usually manage to push everything that isn't knitting or watching Friends to the absolute deadline of This needs to be finished tommorrow.

Because pictures, here is a picture of an unfinished sock!

This is the Spiceman pattern in Crazy Zauberball from Schoppel-Wolle.
(Yes these links go to Ravelry. More about that in another post.)

My first...

...post!
This isn't my first try at starting a blog, but I think I might make it now.

Also this is my first try at making a blog on blogger.com so I might need a few days to make this look interesting, pretty, exciting... Well, they say, aim high, so I am. I hope I won't be disappointed I will not disappoint you!

This blog will be a blog about knitting, just as the title says. Mareike Strickt means Mareike knits in German. Which by the way is where I am from. Though right now I live in Oslo, Norway, where I am doing an internship in the German Kindergarten.

I hope this blog will be filled with pictures and happy thoughts. Oh, does anyone know good tips for taking picures of knitting? WIPs and FOs alike?

Right, I promised pictures, so here is a picure of me, climbing onto something, at least if I figure out how to upload it...
